YTL Corporation did it again by developing another vacation resort that exudes luxury and old English charm. The Cameron Highland Resort, was formerly the Merlin Inn, but was bought over by YTL Hotels & Properties. Now the brand new 56-room boutique property is completely renovated and refurbished giving it a elegant luxurious look and charm.

YTL Hotels & Properties is a leading luxury hotel developer and operator in Malaysia and this is the third luxury resort in Malaysia. Cameron Highland Resort is conceived to complement YTL H&P line of world re-known resorts such as that of Pangkor Laut Resort and Tanjong Jara Resort. You can bet on it that Cameron Highlands Resort is where you want to be the moment you step foot in it.

Set on a lush hillock fronting the golf course, Cameron Highlands Resort, with the tagline Trails, Tales and Tradition, is surrounded by flourishing greenery and rolling hills. The property embodies the charm, the adventure and gentility of that old world practiced in the colonial lifestyle during the '40s and '50s.

I had the privilege of staying at Pangkor Laut once, and it was such a wonderful experience. The landscaping and architecture gave it a most alluring atmosphere, together with their praiseworthy service from their staff, it was the most unforgettable time I had with my wife on that resort. I don't know whether I will get a chance to stay in this new Cameron Highlands Resort but I hope to try it out one day.

Such luxury certainly comes with a price. With the cheapest accommodation rate starting at RM805 nett (approx. US$225 nett) per night in their deluxe room, one can only imagine what it would be like to stay one night in such luxury!

I guess I will just satisfy myself with a cup of afternoon English tea with home baked scones with strawberries, finger sandwiches, and light pastries at the Jim Thompson Tea Room. The Tea Room is very elegantly decorated and has such relaxing atmosphere to it. One could just sit idly here all day long and day dream about the time when the pace was slower, or even consider about the conspiracies that was thrown around regarding the disappearance of Jim Thompson.

If sitting idly is not your cup of tea, wait, there are other luxuries that one can pamper themselves. There is the award winning Spa Village wellness centre, with a wide range of sophisticated treatments and healing therapies inspired by the restorative properties of tea. Each guest will soak themselves in a signature tea bath before every treatment, a heavenly soak formulated to gently cleanse, nourish and soften your skin. With the tranquil indoor and outdoor treatment room and the relaxing tea bath which is based on an ancient bath ritual to relieve stress and refresh the skin as well as slow down the aging process will let your mind and body escape from your busy world.

And all this relaxing will set you back RM400++ per person, or for the couple, RM700++ for a two hours worth of relaxation regiment. And there are many variety of spa experience that one could try, such as the Rose Garden Experience, Camerons Mint Experience, Fresh Strawberry Escapade Experience, Chrysanthemum and Avocado Escape Experience, The Semai Spa Experience, etc.

For dining, there is the Gonbei, a spin-off of the exquisite traditional Japanese restaurant located in the ritzy Starhill Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, is open for dinner and serves fresh sashimi, soba, tasty tempura and popular bento sets. The only Japanese restaurant in Cameron Highlands, Gonbei's open dining concept also features a Sake Bar with a range of traditional Japanese rice wines and Japanese whiskeys as well as pre and after-dinner drinks. So kanpai!

And after all the pampering and feasting, one can then retire to Highlands Bar for further drinking and socializing and perhaps have a game of snooker. On the other if you just wish to have some solitude, retire yourself to the Reading Room for some peace and quite. For those who just can't tear themselves from the world wide web, the Reading Room is provided with the complimentary wireless broadband which you can make use.

Alright, take me there already!
