Jurina Hill Lodge
Cameron Highlands travel destinations
Jurina Hill Lodge bungalow accommodation is located just behind Hillview Inn. You may just miss it because it is block by the other hotel guesthouse. The two buildings are sitting just side by side, and I wondered if they were owned by the same owners.
My parents followed me on this scouting excursion while my wife stayed back in Cameronian Inn as she wanted to pack back some freshly baked scones. The monsoon rain was really coming down like cats and dogs as I pulled up as closed as I could into the porch area for some shelter to get out of the car without getting drench. Somehow a gutter at that top of roof still gushed out tons of water onto the car. A quick egress helped to avoid getting to wet, while my parents used the good old umbrella method to come of the car.
We were greeted by Zain who was managing the counter at that time. So we chatted a little about the accommodation and facilities available in Jurina Hill Lodge. My in her usual chatty self did strike up a lively conversation with Zain. With permission from Zain, I excused myself to explore Jurina Hill Lodge and its rooms.
This is a three story modern bungalow build purposely for room accommodation. Surrounded by lush jungle it serves as a cosy getaway accommodation. The rooms all come with an attached bathroom so you get all the privacy that you need. Plus some if not most of the rooms has balconies that could 'lepak' around and enjoy the air and surrounding on a high perch much like a cat sitting on pillar to watch the world go by! They have about 8 rooms which they could accommodate about 30 persons up to a maximum of 40 persons at one time. Good for small Church group planning for a Church Camp event. In fact according to Zain, very often Church group would book this bungalow taking up all its accommodation. Of course in order to do that you need advance booking especially if you were to plan it during long weekends or school break holidays.
As a semi budget lodging with a price range going from RM70 for 2 pax to about RM120 for 4 pax family room, it is actually quite reasonable. (Rates are just approximation, on peak days it would be higher). The garden compound is rather small, maybe too small for children to run around, but leave it to the kids to come up with something creative to do.
If you want to relax, and watch some TV, they have lounge area on one of their upper floors. Looks real cosy too. I didn't see any Astro set, but perhaps that just as well, 'coz you might want to try snatching that remote to flip to your favourite channel. "Hey, who change my ESPN soccer channel...?!" Well, none of it here (then again who knows in the future?). Better read a book and fill your mind than watch the idiot box.
Going back downstairs, my parents were still having a lively conversation with Zain amidst the pouring rain crashing all around. It was letting up a little, but I have a feeling it would really be a wet day in Cameron Highlands. The conversation with Zain jump to the topic of their "watch dog" named Foxy; it was an abandon dog that somehow found a home in Jurina Hill Lodge. Zain had taken heart when it was a puppy that was left abandon. Fed it and even took it to the vet. And so it was now part of the Jurina Hill Lodge permanent resident. Foxy served as an announcer whenever people move in for the first time. Once she gets familiar with the visitor scent she would no longer bark at them.
Interestingly, if an apartment accommodation is required, Zain could help to book the Parkview Apartments that is located opposite of Hillview Inn/Jurina Hill Lodge. So looks like Cameron Highlands is not short of any accommodation. From star rated hotels to mid priced accommodation and apartments to budget lodging, all could be found. You want accommodation in the town center, far and away in a quiet corner, old or modern bungalows or even just a regular apartment all could be found.
