Hotel Titiwangsa, Brinchang
Located in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands sitting between the Indian temple and Iris Apartment, this square box flat-like building called Hotel Titiwangsa is rather uninspiring looking. Reminds me of Mint Hotel located along the Sg Besi - Seremban Highway which is also very square and has very boring architecture. However, a square box accommodation maximizes on limited space. So which one do you want? Living space or eye soothing appeal? I leave that to you to contemplate if ever you were shopping around for a condominium to stay.
However as a holiday maker, sometimes we want cheap accommodation, and at the same time if the outward appearance also look great and blend with the overall Tudor theme architecture of Cameron Highlands, I think it would not be asking too much, no?
Anyway, this hotel was open in mid 2008 and I decided to pop in to have a look-see. The reception was helpful though they didn't have a price list ready, if I recall correctly it was between RM100-RM200 per night depending on peak/non-peak period and the room type chosen.
One of the staff was kind enough to escort me to show some rooms that they had. They have the usual single/double rooms, good for couples visiting the highlands, and they have a very huge family room. The family room was very spacious and the bed can house four persons (but surely some of you might consider cramming? After all, three child could sleep on one bed, yes?). Though I didn't inquire, the family room is so huge that it might be possible to ask for an extra or two in case you need more sleeping bed and of course pay for it. Otherwise bring your own sleeping back and rough it out a little. I noticed that the family room has separated the shower and toilet area; looked kinda strange though it might proof to be useful. I wonder if it was same for all the family room or just this particular one.
Overall the place is really clean, really neat. Only time will tell if it can be maintained as such, especially since they are using carpeted floor, which can be quite difficult to maintain in the moisture rich highlands.
Returning to the ground floor, my parents were still yakking away with the receptionist, I guess when as senior you have lots of tales to tell.
I decided to walk around the outside area and have a quick look-see. There's ample parking area in front and at the side of the Hotel Titiwangsa. So hopefully parking wouldn't be a problem. It is quite a distance to the Brinchang town centre and further away if you want to make it all the way to visit the Brinchang night market. Still the cool air would make for a nice comfortable leisurely walk. Leaving your car at the hotel would make sense as the available parking is severely limited in Brinchang central, and especially when the night market is going on. It might be quite a fair walking distance if you bought a lot of vegetables and souvenirs from the night market.
On the ground floor outside the Hotel Titiwangsa reception, there are shop lots available. Shops range from cafe, cake house and even a foot reflexology massage parlour! Ah, made one too many jungle walks or shopping and marketing? Then give the massage a try. Usually what I do is go for a foot massage on the last night or last day of my vacation trip. That's what I do normally in Bangkok after all the walking from one place to another, a good nice strong rub on my legs and calfs would bring out the ooohs... and ahhhs... loosening those muscle kinks and tiredness.
Location wise, Hotel Titiwangsa is at the edge of Brinchang town, but still within walking range, plus it has ample parking space for those who drive, and with a square box like appearance, I suppose the pricing would be moderate. Will have to reconfirm it the next time when I'm up again and when they a brochure ready. Now I don't even have their phone number, might have misplaced that piece of paper with their contact. Oh, well, so much for tourism Malaysia, it means this page is a work-in-progress and will require further update in future.
